----------------------------------------------------------------- Changing drive letter assignments under Windows NT 4.0/Windows 98 ----------------------------------------------------------------- In order for the Mangajin CD-ROM to work correctly, your CD-ROM drive must be designated as drive D:. ( This applies to Windows/IBM-type computer only; you don't have to worry about it on the Mac.) Most often this will be the default setting, but if it's not, you will have to reconfigure your system in order for the Mangajin CD-ROM to work correctly. The following instructions explain how to change your drive assignments under both Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 98. These instructions will work with most system configurations. ***NOTE********************************************************************* Changing your partition information can cause application not to work correctly, or can cause your computer to break completely. It is recommended that only experienced users who understand this kind of information perform these steps. It is also recommended that you change your drive settings back to their original state after using the Mangajin CD-ROM. Wasabi Brothers cannot take responsibility for system problems that can occur when performing these steps. Bottom line: PERFORM AT YOUR OWN RISK!!! (And only if you understand the ramifications...) **************************************************************************** Changing drive assignments under Windows 98: ------------------------------------------------------- 1) From the Start Menu, choose Settings -> Control Panel. 2) Double Click on System, this will start the System Properties. 3) Choose the device Manager tab. 4) Locate your current D: drive. For example, if your D: drive is a hard drive partition, double click the "Disk drives" device to expand the drive tree. Highlight your current D: partition by clicking on it once, and then click the Properties button at the bottom of the System Properties window. 5) Click the Setting tab. 6) Under "Reserved drive letters" change the drive's drive letter assignment to something other than D:. (Make the start and end drive letters the same value.) 7) From the Device Manager, locate the CD-ROM drive you wish to change to the D: drive. Highlight your CD-ROM drive by clicking on it once, and then click the Properties button at the bottom of the System Properties window. 8) Click the settings tab. 9) Under "Reserved drive letters" change the drive's drive letter assignment to D:. (Make the start and end drive letters both D:.) 10) Reboot your machine in order for the changes to take effect. Your CD-ROM drive should be set to D: after rebooting your machine. 11) Enjoy. Changing drive assignments under Windows NT 4.0: ------------------------------------------------ 1) Close all currently running applications. 2) From the Start menu, choose Programs -> Administrative Tools -> Disk Administrator. This will start the NT Disk Administrator program. (Note: If you have removable media drives, such asa Zip or Jazz drive, the Disk Administrator may start with an error saying "there is no disk in the drive." Insert a disk into your drive and click the Retry button in order to continue. Close and restart the Disk Administrator program before continuing to step 2.) 3) The Disk Administrator is arranged such that each drive has a column. The leftmost section of the column contain the drive's physical information. To the right of the disks physical information is the drive's partition information. You will be changing this partition information. You must have administrative privileges on your computer in order to make any drive assignment changes. What you need to do is make sure that: a) Your partition that is currently D: be assigned to another letter, and ... b) ... your CD-ROM drive moved from where it currently resides and be assigned the letter D:. 5) First, you must move your D: partition. To do this , left click the partition (right side) sthat is currently marked as D:. This will "box in", or highlight the partition. 6) Once the partition is selected, right click on the partition. This will bring up a menu. Select the option for "Assign Drive Letter." This will pop up the Assign Drive Letter box. 7) Make sure the radio button next to "Assign drive letter" is selected. Choose the new drive letter for your current D: drive. You may only select a letter that is not being currently used by your system. For example, switch from D: to X:. 8) Next, you must move your CD-ROM to D:. To do this, left click your CD-ROM partition (right side). This will "box in", or highlight the partition. 9) Once the partition is selected, right click on the partition. This will bring up a menu. Select the option for "Assign Drive Letter." This will pop up the Assign Drive Letter box. 10) Make sure the ration button next to "Assign drive letter" is selected. Choose to tmake your CD-ROM drive D:. For example, move your CD-ROM from F: to D:. 11) Reboot your machine in order for the changes to take effect. Your CD-ROM drive should be set to D: after rebooting your machine. 12) Enjoy.
